TRAILERWATCH: Joker: Folie à Deux

The first trailer for “Joker: Folie à Deux,” the musical sequel to the hit film “Joker,” starring Oscar winners Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, has been unveiled.

In the sequel, Joaquin Phoenix reprises his role as Arthur Fleck, the aspiring stand-up comedian turned villain, while Lady Gaga portrays Dr. Harleen Quinzel, a psychiatrist assigned to treat Fleck at Arkham Asylum. Dr. Quinzel falls in love with Fleck and becomes his accomplice, Harley Quinn.

The title “Folie à Deux” refers to a psychiatric syndrome in which a delusional state is shared by two people.

Unlike its predecessor, “Joker: Folie à Deux” will be a musical and is expected to feature 15 musical numbers, with most of them being covers of pre-existing songs. The trailer features the 1965 song “What the World Needs Now Is Love.”

The film also stars Zazie Beetz, Brendan Gleeson, Steve Coogan, and Catherine Keener. It is directed by Todd Phillips, who directed the original “Joker” film. While Phillips initially considered “Joker” to be a standalone movie, he expressed interest in making more if Phoenix was involved.

Phoenix, who won an Oscar for his portrayal of Fleck, has been enthusiastic about the role, expressing interest in exploring further possibilities with the character.

“Joker” made box office history upon its release in 2019, becoming the first R-rated film to gross over $1 billion. It won the Golden Lion at the Venice International Film Festival and was nominated for 11 Oscars, winning two.

“Joker: Folie à Deux” is set to hit theaters on October 4th.
