Every suicide is a tragedy, leaving families, friends and communities with unimaginable grief. At The OLLIE Foundation, we believe that suicide is preventable and that, through education, early intervention and compassionate conversations, we can help create opportunities for hope, connection and support.

The OLLIE Foundation was established by three St Albans parents who had each experienced the devastating loss of a son to suicide. They met through a local Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide support group and, united by their shared experiences, decided they wanted to help prevent other families from experiencing the same heartbreak.

Their vision is captured in the Foundation’s powerful strapline— “One Life lost is Enough”. These words reflect the belief that behind every suicide is a person, a family and a community forever changed and that action, understanding and support are essential.

At the heart of The OLLIE Foundation’s work is the belief that empowering conversations can save lives. We equip parents, carers, teachers, youth workers, professionals and community members with the confidence, knowledge and practical skills to have difficult conversations about mental health and suicide.

These conversations can feel challenging, but creating spaces where people feel able to talk openly is vital. By breaking down silence and stigma, we help make suicide a subject that can be discussed with compassion, honesty and understanding. Talking about suicide does not create risk; it creates opportunities for connection, support and early intervention.

A key part of our work is strengthening the network around children and young people. By skilling up the trusted adults in their lives, we help communities recognise when someone may be struggling, respond with confidence and ensure young people have access to the right support at the right time.

The OLLIE Foundation is committed to embedding itself within local communities and working collaboratively with partners to provide the network around young people with greater understanding, support and access to help. By working alongside local counselling and support services, schools and community organisations, we help create stronger, more connected systems of care.

Our expertise also supports schools with suicide prevention and providing support and guidance in the event of the death of a young person by suicide. We work with school communities to help them develop, review and test policies and procedures that prepare them to respond effectively and compassionately when concerns arise or when a suicide has impacted their community. By building confidence, knowledge and resilience within schools, we help ensure staff feel supported and young people receive a thoughtful, safe and informed response.

Alongside prevention, we recognise the profound impact suicide has on those left behind. A loss by suicide is a unique and deeply painful experience, and those affected can often feel isolated or unsure where to turn. The OLLIE Foundation provides support and understanding for people navigating life after suicide loss, helping them feel less alone and more connected to others who understand.

Everything we do is driven by a commitment to reduce stigma, encourage open conversations and build communities where people feel able to ask for help. Suicide prevention is everyone’s responsibility, and by working in partnership with families, schools, communities and professionals we can create environments where people feel seen, heard and supported.

Through education, compassion, collaboration and conversation, The OLLIE Foundation continues to work towards a future where fewer families experience the devastating impact of suicide.

Together, we can make a difference. If you would like to support The OLLIE Foundation, there are many ways to get involved, from donating or fundraising, to organising a community event or partnering with us as a business or organisation. Every action helps us reach more people with life-saving suicide prevention education and early intervention support.
